A person who spiked treats with sleeping medication and gave them to youngsters at a youth camp in the region has confessed to sexual offenses against two young males aged nine and ten years old.
Jon Ruben was arrested after eight youngsters and one adult fell ill at the facility in July.
The senior citizen, from Ruddington in Nottinghamshire, confessed to a total of 17 charges when he was present at the courthouse on recently.
However, he disputed one of the sexual offences he was charged with, which was against a young boy.
The accused was held in detention before a additional proceeding on November 28th.
'Candy game'
Mary Prior KC, handling the case, described Ruben's offending to the legal proceedings.
She said his victims were under-privileged children who were attending a summer program which he managed.
The man conducted a "treat game" with the minors, the prosecutor explained, in which he would enter the children's bedrooms when they were getting ready for bed and request they to ingest treats "rapidly".
She stated to the judge the man had conducted this practice with the boys "over an extended period", and children had previously fallen ill the next day.
She explained the man had been capable of justifying this repeatedly as the children being "overstimulated by activities", until his stepchild had worries in summer 2025.
The legal representative continued: "Recently" his stepson had suspicions about what was going on, for good reason.
"They decided to investigate in the man's possessions."
The prosecutor stated objects including baby oil, ointment and injection devices were located, and his family member contacted the authorities about his worries.
She explained the defendant proceeded to play the "candy game" with six youngsters that time - that Saturday - and they were all ill the following morning.
"Law enforcement" had not arrived by that stage," she stated further.
The police watchdog, the police conduct office, previously told that it was examining the police response of the incident.
Mrs Prior explained the children were unable to walk properly due to their condition, so Ruben's stepson called the law enforcement once more.
She stated the defendant then played the "sweet game" in a area of five children.
