'It's like they never miss a pass': Swansea's Galbraith renews battle with Manchester City.

Ethan Galbraith can't help but smile as he reminisces about the nail-biting closing stages of his team's remarkable turnaround win against Nottingham Forest in the EFL Cup. That match culminated with Galbraith picking up a supporter's spectacles after the post-goal scrum.

With the clock ticking into the 97th minute, Galbraith struck the post with a long-range shot from 25 yards, and his teammate promptly hammered in the loose ball before sprinting toward the home end to mark the goal, with fans swarming the players.

Stunning Reversal

The victory sealed an incredible recovery given the team had trailed 2-0 deep into the second half. In the delirium, there was some unintended consequences. Galbraith explained, "There was a supporter trying to get our attention and we were wondering: 'What's he on about here?' Then we noticed the glasses. It was a light-hearted moment putting them on. We are on the pitch as footballers but we're individuals, too, so to have a bit of craic with the fans is always good."

Premier League Giants

The result secured a upcoming fixture at home against Pep Guardiola's side on Wednesday, a club Galbraith pushed hard at the comparable phase of the FA Cup with the London side in February. The athletic midfielder had an excellent perspective when his former team took the lead in stunning style, with the attacker's first-time shot from about way out going in via the woodwork and the opposition keeper. It feels criminal that it was credited as an own goal.

"You would have hoped they would've credited him for attempting the shot from that distance," commented Galbraith, who began the game centrally before shifting to right defensive wing after the team changed formation. That meant competing with Jack Grealish, with whom he exchanged jerseys, and the attacker was among the opposition who complimented the way his former team attacked the game.

City's Quality

"Physically they are exceptional but even the simple things and simple things, they can just perform consistently," Galbraith says. "It feels like they always find their target and they are adept at dictate and slow down a game. You can think you're doing well and then abruptly they will just thread a ball past your midfield without you even spotting it. You have to be switched on at all times of the game. It requires a strong mentality and concentration just to keep pace."

Welsh Transition

Swansea were keen on Galbraith in January and fought off rivals to bring him in in the summer in a seven-figure transfer. He became a favorite as a crowd pleaser across a couple of years at his former club and has rapidly achieved similar status in his new home. At the London club he reunited with the coach, who earlier gave Galbraith his debut prolonged spell in senior football on loan at Doncaster from Manchester United. Then came a spell at fourth-tier the Manchester club, before he permanently left his boyhood club.

Growth Journey

"I was probably a somewhat inexperienced going into senior level. I think many athletes would say development squad matches is very different. Sometimes it appears the ball is moved without much intensity. There's not many physical contests. Once you start playing professional matches you have to learn quickly."

National Team Success

He has demonstrated that maturation for club and country, performing well for his national side, who could still reach the international competition next summer via the playoffs and for whom he has been selected in the past five games, including both legs fixtures against a football powerhouse. His former international manager, Galbraith's ex- international manager, gave him the ultimate compliment, saying he was Northern Ireland's "little Iniesta or Xavi" given how he handles the football and his knack for a game-changing assist.

Early Days

It has been an incredible journey for the player from the Queens Park estate in his hometown, just outside Northern Ireland's main city, who grew up watching his dad, Stuart, also a central player, play for a local club.

Old Trafford Memory

Galbraith's sole appearance for Manchester United came in Central Asia in 2019, a continental tournament trip to the host city, where they played on an synthetic surface and the arena covering was sealed owing to temperatures of bitter cold. "It was a lengthy journey and it was chilly," he recalls, smiling. "The preceding week, the academy prospects trained together, so that helped us acclimatise. Just to travel with the first team and make an appearance at the end was amazing."

Moving On

How difficult was it to move on from Old Trafford, the club he joined from Linfield aged his mid-teens? "This turned out relatively straightforward, because I arrived at the moment where I understood I wouldn't break through at the senior squad. I'm very appreciative for the time I spent there but it got to the point where I felt I needed to go my own route, move to a lower level and play professional soccer. Now I'm slowly climbing the ladder."

Welsh Adaptation

It is the middle of the day at the club's training ground but Galbraith has an appointment at 5pm: a learner's exam, another progress toward getting on the road. Before his recent move to his new neighborhood, the mid-twenties player was a constant rider in Swansea's so-called player transport, a small coach driven by team personnel, the drivers, which transports players to and from practice and games.

"My companions include the Portuguese player, the Brazilian, an Ivorian player – a former passenger used to be in it but has begun using his own car. It's enjoyable to socialize with the guys but I'm aiming to be the subsequent individual to drive independently and behind the wheel. The Portuguese player is known for his humor; he's always up to all sorts."

Public Engagement

During his time at Orient, Galbraith would blend in with followers on London's Central line after commuting at Brentwood. "I tried|I attempted|My aim
